Wearing Cosplay wigs in Public/everyday life?

What do you think?
What I think. Personaly I can count the number of times I've done it on one hand. I saw the appeal in changing up my haircolor without the damage that comes with dying. Also how cool is having a bob hair-cut one day then waist lenth pigtails the next? And don't get me started on the whole lazy factor of little to no effort in putting on a wig.

In personal expirence the first time I went out, I was in a fairly natural colour. But the wig was exceedingly long. (Aprox hip lenght) All I did was put on a hat to hide the "fake" roots of a wig. People figured I was wearing a wig, especially friends (duh). As for the general public they just smiled. (Not sure if it was a "happy smile" or a "if I smile at this strange girl, she might go away" type of smile.
But!..........
The downside to all this self confidence and excitement is;
- Your wig WILL tangle, cosplay wigs are not intended for everyday wear and tear.
- There will be party poopers and negative nellys. "Hater gonna hate baby I'm just gonna shake shake shake......" as our good old T-swizzle would say.
- No pain no gain. If you have never expirenced wig head aches or the attack of the itchies when wearing a wig, two things.....
As for reactions. The only reactions I get or have noticed are from old people or small children. Old people just voice what they are thinking.
" hey Doreen, that girl is wearing a wig or is her hair really that blue?"
"Yes Gurtrude, its a wig."

Little children think you are a magical princess from a far away relm, with long curly piny hair.
Tips for if you do :)
1. Bring a brush
2. Wear a hat or head peice of some sort to hide the "fake roots".
3. Secure it tightly so it does not move thoughout the day.
4. Hold your head up high! If you look proud and confident, people will accept you more. If you look like you have somthing to be ashamed of, people will pick up on that.
Some comments from other cosplayers :
"I like wearing wigs more than my own hair. I've never had anyone act like it was weird and in fact, everytime I have revealed it's a wig I've gotten shocked looks. Wigs give me confidence because I know my hair will look good." - Minno
"In my last year of school I was confident enought to wear wigs :3 my real hair color changes every two or three months. My wigs are mostly very long, but I also have a few short ones. I wear the short ones out to the shops all the time. But I would love for more people to wear wigs in their all day life or in general. It gives us so many possibilites and self- confinence and you can try so many things without damaging your real hair." - Caelnu
